2026 Application Guide to English-taught Undergraduate Programs for International Students in Central South University

Ⅱ. Catalogue and Instruction Language

CSU offers five English-taught undergraduate programs: Civil Engineering, Mathematics, Computing Science, Mechanical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering with Transportation. 

Students who earn the required credits, successfully defend their dissertation, and meet all degree requirements will receive a diploma and a bachelor's degree from Central South University and a honours bachelor's degree from the University of Dundee. Applicants are required to meet the admission requirements as set forth by both Central South University and the University of Dundee.

Ⅲ. Eligibility

1. Basic Requirements

(1) Non-Chinese citizens who are in good health, hold a valid foreign passport, have obtained a high school diploma, and are willing to comply with the Chinese laws and regulations of CSU.

(2) Aged between 18-25 (born before May 30, 2008). Applicants who are under the age of 18(above 16) need an eligible guardian living in China. The eligible guardian should have worked in China for a long time.

(3) Language requirements: Students who apply for English-taught programs should obtain a minimum score of 6 in IELTS or 85 in TOEFLApplicants  are exempt from proving language proficiency if English is their first/official language, or if they have completed a prior degree taught in English.

(4) Applicants must have taken the China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA), organized by the China Scholarship Council (CSC), and obtained the required subject scores. 2. Nationality Requirements

This requirement applies only to applicants who were born to parent(s) with Chinese citizenship at the time of birth.

(1) Applicants who were born outside China with a foreign nationality at birth and whose either or both parents were Chinese citizens residing abroad at the time of their birththe Chinese parent(s) must have obtained permanent residency abroad before the applicant's birth. The applicant must also have records proving actual residence abroad for at least two years within the period from May 1, 2022, to April 30, 2026.

(2) For applicants who were former Chinese citizens and have naturalized as foreign nationals, they must have acquired their foreign citizenship on or before May 1, 2022, and completed the procedures for renouncing Chinese nationality. They are also required to provide proof of actual residence abroad for at least two years between May 1, 2022, and April 30, 2026.

For both categories, a residency year is defined from May 1 to April 30 of the following year, and residing abroad for at least nine months within one year counts as a full year. All residence records must be verified by entry and exit stamps in the passport.

According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education of P.R. China, international students must purchase comprehensive medical insurance while studying in China. International students admitted without insurance funding must purchase the insurance at their own expense. Uninsured students cannot register.

Ⅴ. Materials Required:

1. Applicants must upload a video of self-introduction in English within one minute. The video must be in MP4 format with a capacity of less than 40MB.  

2. The homepage of the passport (over one-year availability), and the page of the latest Chinese visa (If any).

3. Highest graduation certificate (notarized Chinese/English document only). Applicants who are still studying in senior high school or above and will graduate in June are required to provide a pre-graduation certificate issued by their current schools.

4. Stamped transcript of the highest diploma (notarized Chinese/English document only).

5. The Score Report of "China Scholastic Competency Assessment"(CSCA).

6. Valid IELTS\TOEFL Transcript or other documents to prove your linguistic competence.

7. Foreigner Physical Record. Applicants should strictly check the items following the requirements of Physical Examination Record.pdf. An incomplete form (including sheets with no photos, no signs or stamps of doctors and hospitals) is regarded as an invalid form. The physical examination form shall be issued after October 1, 2025. The original piece is required during registration.

8. Non-criminal record with an official stamp in Chinese/English. The issue date shall be after October 1, 2025.

9. Applicants under the age of 18 but above 16 must provide ID certificates, employment certificates, and LETTER OF GUARANTEE.doc from a guardian living in China.

10. Nationality & Identity Documents.

(1) Applicants who were born outside China with a foreign nationality at birth and whose either or both parents were Chinese citizens residing abroad at the time of their birth should provide:

① Proof of obtaining foreign citizenship at birth.

② Documents to prove that one or both parents of the applicant have acquired foreign permanent residency before the applicant's birth.

③ All visas, exit & entry records to/from China from May 1, 2022, until the application date.

(2) Applicants who have emigrated from China and have acquired foreign citizenship should provide:

Document of rescission of Chinese citizenship and household registration (Hukou).

Document of naturalization to the foreign country.

 All visas, exit & entry records to/from China.

11. Bank deposit certificate to prove an equivalent of CNY 50,000 or more in the account of the applicant. (Only for applicants who apply for self-supporting programs).

12. Other supporting materials. E.g., Applicants who apply for design-related majors are required to provide drawings or other materials.

Ⅵ. Application Procedures

Step 1: Online Application

Log in to the system of School of International Education:  https://csu.17gz.org/. Then fill in the application form, submit the materials online, and wait for the initial review.

Step 2: Pay the Application Fee

After passing the online initial review, please complete the application fee payment within two weeks; otherwise, the application cannot be continued. If you fail to pass the initial review, NO NEED to pay this fee.

Step 3: Final Review and Result Release

Students will be reviewed for final admission results depending on a comprehensive evaluation, and the admission letter and visa application form will be sent according to the final admission results. Application status will be informed in the CSU International Student Service System. Please ensure that the registered email address is accurate, and keep yourself informed by constantly checking the Application System.

Ⅶ. Notes

1. The materials mentioned above shall be provided in English or Chinese. Materials in any other language should be notarized in Chinese or English.

2. The application fee will not be returned regardless of admission results.

3Undergraduate programs usually start at the end of August or early September every year. For exact registration dates, please refer to the Admission Notice. The original graduation certificate and original language proficiency certificate will be checked upon registration. Those who fail to provide the corresponding certificates will be disqualified from enrollment.
